Community Service Project Grants to Support Literacy Education

An important goal of the Portland Reading Council is to promote literacy in our community. We fund projects throughout the year in local schools and community organizations.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS MUST HAVE AN IMPACT THAT EXTENDS BEYOND THE SCHOOL WALLS.

Past projects include: 

Creating a lending library and sharing literacy activities with families at an apartment complex in Gresham                                                                                                                               

Supporting a local project boosting literacy in 2nd grade by pairing students with local high school athletes as reading mentors

Supporting local high school students who read books, wrote reviews, and donated the titles to Street Books, a bicycle-powered lending library for the homeless
